Dear Parent / Guardian,
To proactively address the mental health needs of our teenagers and to comply with Section 170.048 RSMo,(Valley View Education Center) staff are working to teach students about prevention and awareness of youth suicide and how to seek help if they are worried about themselves or a friend. The lesson will reference resources from the SOS Signs of Suicide Program.
The Power Point presentation on November 5th during their 3rd hour and will cover the following:
- ACT (Acknowledge, Care and Tell a trusted adult) message if concerned about themselves or a friend
- how to identify depression and potential suicide risk in themselves or a friend
- depression is treatable, so students are encouraged to seek help
- who students can turn to at school for help
- school and community mental health resources
School staff will be available for any student asking to talk.
We are including:
- A youth suicide prevention handout
- An info sheet with resources

If you do NOT wish for your child to participate, please email me by November 3rd. If we do not hear from you, we will assume your child has permission to participate in this lesson.
